TRASH TO TREASURE
An exciting local upcycling project. Plastic waste is collected from our local Pacific Harbour beaches and from a community drop off point at the Adorn Pacific workshop.
Plastic is cleaned, processed and sorted into colours and upcycled into in our workshop to our trash to treasure jewellery collection.
The project started with Sandy posting videos on social media of her daily morning beach walks before work collecting shells and taking them back to the workshop to set as jewelry and list on the website all in one day. The videos show beaches and weather and scenery in Fiji and have been a fun part of Adorn social media for many years.
However, often just out of shot, very unfortunately, is rubbish. Fiji has a huge and obvious littering problem. It's rare in Fiji not to find rubbish in nature. Even in some of the more remote spots there is always plastic garbage to find. With never-ending bags of rubbish and no clear recycling options in Fiji, Sandy slowly started testing ways to make a really surprisingly beautiful and wearable product and at a very affordable price.
Jewelry with a purpose that makes you feel good to purchase and to wear!
If you would like to contribute to our project, please drop off any clean hard plastic you may have to our workshop location. Examples are bottle lids.. milk, water, coke, sprite, shampoo bottles, moisturiser bottles and lids, peanut butter jar lids, toothpaste caps etc.
Vinaka and thank you for helping to keep Fiji clean!
