JEWEL CARE

Remember this rule and your jewels will last for many years! Last on, First off!

925 STERLING SILVER JEWELRY CARE

  • Our silver is all .925 sterling silver. Sterling silver jewelry that is worn daily often develops a lovely patina, a kind of glow combined with darkened areas. If you like the look, leave it alone. If you prefer a bright and shiny look for your sterling silver, use a soft cloth to restore the jewelry to its original appearance.
  • Substances like oils, perfume, mosquito repellent, nail polish remover, chlorine, salt water etc. may react with the metals and will cause it to tarnish easily. Sweat will also cause tarnish and irritation, so don’t forget to remove your silver jewelry when you exercise.
  • Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your jewelry.
  • To polish your jewels, use any soft, non abrasive cloth. Use this cloth on its own without any commercial silver polish.  Do not use paper towels or tissues to polish your jewelry as they contain fibers that can scratch the silver.
  • Silver is soft and can become scratched easily. When polishing, use long back-and-forth motions that mirror the grain of the silver. Do not rub in circles, as this will magnify any tiny scratches. Use a different section of your cloth frequently to avoid placing tarnish back on the silver. You can use a Q-tip ear bud to get into small, detailed areas.
  • If your silver  is heavily tarnished, you may want to try the following homemade treatment - Line a bowl with aluminium foil. Place your silver in the bowl. Pour boiling water over the jewelry and add approx 4 heaped tablespoons of baking soda. Tarnish is removed immediately. Rinse and dry. Do not soak gemstones. This treatment is only for sterling silver. Watch a quick video on how to do it over on our TikTok channel
  • In high humidity tropical regions, your jewels are best stored in an air tight container or airtight zip lock bag.

18K GOLD VERMEIL JEWELRY CARE

  • Our Gold Vermeil is similar to plating. It is a heavy layer of real 18k gold over a .925 sterling silver base.
  • Unlike sterling silver, gold vermeil should only be worn as occasional jewelry as the gold layer will eventually fade with wear. For example styles such as rings or bracelets which rub against skin regularly will fade faster than a pair of earrings.
  • Care for your gold vermeil jewels in a similar way to sterling silver.
  • Substances like oils, perfume, mosquito repellent, nail polish remover, chlorine, salt water etc. may react with the metals and will cause it to tarnish easily. Sweat will also cause tarnish and irritation, so don’t forget to remove your jewelry when you exercise.
  • Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing your gold plated jewelry. Wear your jewelry after you have sprayed on your perfume so that chemicals in the perfume do not interact with your jewelry’s metal.
  • Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your jewelry.
  • To polish your jewels, use any soft, nonabrasive clothUse the cloth on its own without any commercial silver polish. Do not use paper towels or tissues to polish your jewelry as they contain fibers that can scratch the silver.
  • Clean and restore shine to your your vermeil jewelry by gently rubbing the jewels with a very soft cloth.
  • When polishing, use long back-and-forth motions that mirror the grain of the gold. Do not rub in circles, as this will magnify any tiny scratches. Use a different section of your cloth frequently to avoid placing tarnish back on the gold. You can use a ear bud to get into small, detailed areas.
  • In high humidity tropical regions, your jewels are best stored in an air tight container or a zip lock bag.

14K GOLD FILLED JEWELRY CARE

  • Gold filled jewelry is created by pressure bonding an actual layer of gold to another metal. Although a gold filled piece of jewelry is not solid gold, it has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won't tarnish and will not rub off or change colour. It is next best to solid gold.

STAINLESS STEEL & GOLD PLATED STAINLESS STEEL JEWELRY CARE

  • As always - last on, first off.
  • Yes, stainless steel can get wet. It is highly water-resistant, rust-resistant and, unlike silver or gold, it will not tarnish when exposed to water, making it ideal for daily wear. While durable in water, it is best to avoid harsh chemicals (chlorine) and prolonged exposure to salt water to prevent dulling.
  • Showering & Swimming: You can wear it in the shower, but you should rinse off soaps and shampoos afterward. It is better to remove it before swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean. Think of your jewelry as water resistant not water proof.
  • Maintenance: If it gets wet, simply wipe it dry with a soft cloth to prevent mineral deposits.

BRASS JEWELRY CARE

  • Brass naturally tarnishes over time, and takes on a beautiful patina. This, in a way, protects the metal.
  • However if you want to get back the shine of your piece, it is easy to clean and look after. Here are our top tips!
  • Keep it dry! Remove when showering, bathing, exercising and when sleeping. Store in a dry place when you aren't wearing your brass jewels!
  • Avoid contact with sprays and creams including soap, perfume, moisturiser and sunscreen as it can result in a 'spotty' tarnished appearance.
  • Natural cleaners: Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with a few drops of lemon juice until you have a good paste. Apply the paste to your piece with an old toothbrush and scrub. Let it sit for up to 15 minutes, rinse with water and dry thoroughly. OR Combine 1 teaspoon of salt into ½ cup of vinegar. Then add flour until the mixture becomes a paste-like substance. Rub into the brass and leave for around 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes are up, rinse the brass with warm water and dry thoroughly.
PEARLS AND SHELLS
  • Our Fijian farmed Salt water pearls and our hand cut and carved Fijian saltwater oysters don't need much maintenance. A gentle wipe to remove sweat and grime build up etc at the end of the day.
  • We use pearl and shells by Civa Fiji, Taveuni.
  • Our mother of pearl shell is a natural bi-product of pearl farming. The shells have been hand cut and polished to perfection. Shells are fragile, store with care and take off during periods of high activity.
  • A wipe with a damp cloth is all that is needed. Keep pearls and shells away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics, as these substances will damage the pearl surface.
  • Pearls should be stored away from other objects or jewelry that may scratch their surfaces. Wrap the pearls in linen, soft cloth, or place in a soft pouch.
  • Remove jewels before starting any work like washing dishes, gardening where your pearls or shells might be knocked and broken. Remove your pearls when you going swimming, beware of chlorinated water and saltwater.
  • If your pearl is not drilled straight though then it may have a post setting glued in place,  secured with a two part epoxy araldite glue. Glue loosens and moves with heat. Please remove your pearls when you cook or bake, or use hot water. Hot steam can slowly loosen glue. We reglue at anytime for free.

GENUINE LEATHER CARE

  • To remove dust, oil based stains and perspiration, gently clean its surface with a soft dry or damp cloth. Use a mild soap (diluted by 10 parts) and clean with a soft cloth if need be to remove any other form of stains by gently dabbing the area and let air dry.
  • In the case of a water spill, quickly wipe off with a dry cloth to prevent water stains and then let it air dry naturally.
  • Avoid fully immersing the leather in water or using a very wet cloth.
  • When not in use, store it in a dust bag (not plastic) in a cool dry place and air regularly.
  • Avoid exposure to intense heat, harsh chemicals, perfumes or sharp objects as that may cause fading and damage.
  • You may consider applying a leather conditioner to maintain its softness over time.

FAUX (SYNTHETIC) LEATHER CARE

  • To remove dust, oil based stains and perspiration, gently clean its surface with a soft dry or damp cloth. Use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water, and clean with a soft cloth if need be to remove any other form of stains by gently dabbing the area and let air dry.
  • In the case of a water spill, quickly wipe off with a dry cloth to prevent water stains and then let it air dry naturally.
  • Avoid fully immersing the synthetic leather in water or using a very wet cloth, even though synthetic leather is waterproof it may cause discoloration or cracking.
  • When not in use, store it in a dust bag (not plastic) in a cool dry place and air regularly.
  • Avoid exposure to intense heat, harsh chemicals, perfumes or sharp objects as that may cause fading and damage.

WAX CORD, SATIN AND NYLON CORD CARE

  • To remove dust, oil based stains and perspiration, gently clean its surface with a soft dry or damp cloth and let air dry.
  • Wax cord is very durable and will soften slightly over time.
  • Even though it is water resistant, we do not recommend wearing it while bathing or fully immersing it in water.
  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, acids or any other harsh chemicals.
  • Excessive sweat can also damage cords. Nylon cord is more durable than Satin or Waxed.

RESIN JEWELRY CARE

  • Our resin earring collection is printed paper coated in multiple layers of high quality resin. This makes it water-resistant. We recommend removing resin jewelry prior to showering or swimming.
  • Our resin does not yellow over time.
  • Our fabric coated resin jewelry is waterproof.
  • Our paper coated resin jewelry is water resistant - best to keep dry. (if a hole is drilled to attach a hanging ear hook then moisture can enter the resin. If it is a stud then it is water resistant)
  • Our recycled plastic waste resin earrings are waterproof. All parts are Stainless steel.

MOTHER OF PEARL SHELL CARE

  • This is natural shell and should be treated with care. We do not refund broken Mother of pearl. We pack and ship with bubble wrap. Store laid flat. If travelling. store in separate containers.
